Dads in the Limelight Series

Our 724th Dad in the Limelight is Rich Dad Society founder Miles Huddleston. I want to thank Miles Huddleston for being a part of this series. It has been great getting connected with him and now sharing Miles Huddleston with all of you.

Miles Huddleston is the 724rd Dad being spotlighted in the Dads in the Limelight series on the Dad of Divas blog!

1) Tell me about yourself, (as well as how you are in the limelight for my readers knowledge)

My name is Miles Huddleston from Kansas City, MO. I work in the banking industry full-time, but once it’s time to clock out, I run an apparel line dedicated to men called Rich Dad Society. It started out as an alternative for #1 dad shirts, but it’s really for all men who are trying to be positive influences/role models in their communities. It was a way to honor the man who raised me as his own, and understanding the sacrifice it took. So, this line is also dedicated to anyone (men/women) who have someone in their life they’d like to honor!

2) Tell me about your family

I’m newly married (almost 3 years), and we just welcomed our first child; our baby girl Parker. She just reached 3 months and is FINALLY starting to sleep through the night lol.

3) What has been the largest challenge you have had in being a father?
I think the biggest challenge is just learning how to be a father. There’s no manual, and all logic flies out the window when a 3 month old starts crying and your wife isn’t around to answer your questions lol. Seriously, when she leaves me alone w/ our kid, I get a bit of anxiety because she makes it look so easy.

4) What advice would you give to other fathers?

TRIAL & ERROR. They don’t know that we don’t know what we’re doing, and they won’t for a long time. This is probably the best time to “Fake it til you make it”! Have fun, and don’t let work get in the way of watching your kids grow. You can’t get some of these experiences back and no amount of money will change that.

5) How have you come to balance parenthood and outside life?

We definitely try to have friends visit us more lol. I try to designate at least 1 day a week to myself; meeting up with the guys for drinks, or just playing video games in the mancave. Doing this allows me “recharge”.

6) What have you learned from the fathers that you have interacted with?

They’re all just as clueless as I was when I started out. But does the experience bond men like no other. Everyone’s so eager to tell you tips and tricks that worked for them. You haven’t been sleeping well? Try doing this. Your baby won’t sleep? Buy this. It doesn’t matter your background, as men we’re just trying to help the next father figure something out quicker than they did.

7) What else would you share regarding your experiences as a father thus far?
Make sure you take time to rekindle the romance with your spouse. Sex is going to be less and less frequent so when she gives you the go ahead, try to take advantage. Also, I’ve heard so many people respond like “Oh, you help your wife with your daughter?” I’m not sure if this was just an old way of thinking, or if it’s still happening, but be an involved dad and spouse. It really makes everything easier.

8) What have been the most memorable experiences that you have had thus far as a parent?

Since I only have 3 months of experiences. The most memorable one is probably the first night my wife and I were in the hospital alone. It was about 2am and I just sat next to her as she held our daughter. It was a moment of peace like I’ve never felt. That’s something I’ll never forget.
