Our 665th Dad in the Limelight is Pete a writer with Indy’s Child and Stay-At-Home-Dad of three. I want to thank Pete for being a part of this series. It has been great getting connected with him and now sharing Pete with all of you.
1)Tell me about yourself, (as well as how you are in the limelight for my readers knowledge)
I’m a former 7th grade teacher. I’ve been a SAHD for five years. My kids are ages 10, 7, and 5. I started my blogging about my life as a dad, when I began staying home with my kids full-time. It’s been a great way for me to be creative, remember certain events I’m sure I would’ve forgotten otherwise and provided me with lots of opportunities to become friends with other dad bloggers. I also write for Indy’s Child, Indiana’s #1 parenting resource.
2) Tell me about your family
My wife and I have been married for 11 years. She is an OB/Gyn. We made the decision for me to stay home full-time when we found out we were having our third child while she was in her medical residency.
3) What has been the largest challenge you have had in being a father?
Maintaining a social life. Before It was easy. I went to work. Now that I’m home I have to SEEK OUT all possible adult interactions, other than talking to my wife.
4) What advice would you give to other fathers?
Be patient with you kid. Sure they do things slow, but they’re kids, that’s part of how they learn. Praise the positive behaviors. Don’t focus on the kid creating the problem, focus on the kid doing the right thing.
5) How have you come to balance parenthood and outside life?
This one I’m still working on. I’ve recently joined a running group. I’ve also volunteered with a few different charity organizations. My wife and I make sure we get the kids to bed at a reasonable hour so we have time for just the two of us each evening.
6) What have you learned from the fathers that you have interacted with?
That we all have aspects of parenting we struggle with. I’ve also learned that most dads I know are deeply invested in raising their kids.
7) What else would you share regarding your experiences as a father thus far?
8) What have been the most memorable experiences that you have had thus far as a parent?
It’s never the big things. It’s something simple like snuggling during family movie night or sitting around a campfire laughing while making s’mores.
If you have any questions for Pete, please leave a comment here and I will make sure that he gets them so that he may be able to respond!
