1) Tell me about yourself, (as well as how you are in the limelight for my readers knowledge)
Scott Ruggles (aka Struggles, Snuggles, Ruggs, Rugsy Siegel, Scotty Doesn’t Know, How about no Scott)
Father of 2, born and raised in Ohio, living in Arizona. Light tech geek, light sci-fi nerd, underground music fanatic. Owner and proprietor of AmpKicker.com – covering independent rock band  and some more popular acts as well. I’ve done a number of interviews with DIY/Up-and-coming rock bands from across the globe. I’m a  Musician, Geocacher, amateur concert photographer, believer in the unexplained.
2) Tell me about your family
I have 2 incredibly awesome boys, Connor (4) and Graham (2) and an equally awesome wife who is pretty much a rockstar working at Arizona State University.
Connor old is learning sign language at his preschool so he’s constantly imagining new ‘signs’ for things. Yesterday he taught me the sign for ‘poop’ which involves hitting your fist on the ground “Just like poop falling in the toilet!”
Graham enjoys putting buckets over his head, stomping around and running into walls, all while naked.
3) What has been the largest challenge you have had in being a father?
Getting my children dressed. Establishing my role as the authority figure and not just the ‘playmate’. I love playing with my kids and I love to see their imagination grow. But I also need to set boundries so that when I tell them to do something they don’t always think I’m trying to get them to play and start testing me.
4) What advice would you give to other fathers?
Do what you feel is right, but do realize that no matter how much you want to be their ‘friend’ they also need a solid authority figure and not just a ‘buddy’. It’s hard to play that line. Don’t just listen to your kids, show them that you’re listening. Show them the value in caring for others.
5) How have you come to balance parenthood and outside life?
What is this ‘outside life’? I have an hour commute to work and home that I escape into a world of sci-fi audiobooks. That is my ‘outside life’

6) What have you learned from the fathers that you have interacted with?
I don’t have too many close father friends. The ones I have interacted with have kids who are older and more independent. It’s hard for fellow dads to grow a strong bond because you may have different perspectives or expectations for your family.
7) What else would you share regarding your experiences as a father thus far?
It’s been elating and frustrating. I love having a family and re-experencing things through their eyes. It’s hard to know how to do things ‘right’ and your career goals may shift a little.
8) What have been the most memorable experiences that you have had thus far as a parent?
There have been many! I remember taking our oldest son to the coast and then to Legoland in Californa. I remember them camping in the back yard with their grandpa only to be woken up at 5am when the sprinklers went off and they startled awake, cold and soaked. Taking them on their first canoe with the family out on a lake in northern arizona. Surprising out 4 yr old with an adult size bounce house for his birthday.
