Our 688th Dad in the Limelight is Jeremy DeJournett of Dad Done Lost It. I want to thank Jeremy DeJournett for being a part of this series. It has been great getting connected with him and now sharing Jeremy DeJournett with all of you.

Our 688th Dad in the Limelight is Jeremy DeJournett of Dad Done Lost It. Come and meet this committed father and learn from his experiences!

1) Tell me about yourself, (as well as how you are in the limelight for my readers knowledge)
My name is Jeremy DeJournett. I’m a father and husband, a nerd in my spare time and a want-to-be handyman. Before I had a child I worked in several different fields with no clear direction of where my career should go, but since becoming a father my life has taken a dramatic turn.
I went back to college a few years ago to pursue a computer science degree and ended up running a blog, which I suppose, is what has placed me in the limelight. I run the site DadDoneLostIt.com and we offer parenting advice from the father’s perspective as well as some humorous things we find online and product and movie reviews, amongst other things. I’m still in a start-up phase it’s quickly become something I’m passionate about. I love being able to reach people all around the world and hearing from those same people! If you ever want to find out more about me look for @daddonelostit on Twitter or Minds and feel free to message me! I really do like speaking with our readers!

2) Tell me about your family
My family is everything to me and ultimately the reason I do everything I do. I have a wonderful and challenging son named Greyson that will be 3 this year and a beautiful wife, Sara, who has supported me through some very tough times. And there are usually a few dogs running around the house too. My family my world and I would not be the man I am today without them. Within the next year or so we’re hoping to be adding another baby to add to the list.

3) What has been the largest challenge you have had in being a father?
My biggest challenge actually began before I became a father. I got laid off from a really decent job and we lost all of our income. The short version is that as a result when my son was still an infant we were going through a bankruptcy; losing the house and the car in the process. I had to make sure that my family was provided for and had a place to live. We were fortunate to have family and friends that helped prop us up while we figured things out, but that was definitely the most terrifying and certainly the largest challenge I’ve faced as a father. I think we did okay though.

4) What advice would you give to other fathers?
You can’t quit. Ever. Not just because you have to support your family but because your children are watching you. They will emulate you in every aspect of life to some degree and as soon as they see you quit you’ve given them permission to do the same. You can change, adapt and overcome, but you can never quit.

5) How have you come to balance parenthood and outside life?
Has anyone really figured this out? The best you can do is prioritize and handle each challenge as they come one at a time. Order everything that you need to do by importance and start crossing things off your list. (Hint: your family should always be at the top of the list.) In the end try to make every second with your family count as much as possible, they tic away quickly and only leave you with memories. Make sure your life is full of them!

6) What have you learned from the fathers that you have interacted with?
You will never be prepared. Every time I meet with another father it seems that they tell me a story about their child doing something completely unexpected. Nothing you ever do will completely prepare you for fatherhood. So don’t worry, no one has this figured out. We’re all just kind of winging it and trying not to let it show too much.

7) What else would you share regarding your experiences as a father thus far?
This is by far the most challenging and rewarding thing that I’ve ever experienced as a man. It has pushed me to new heights in my career, changed my focus and revealed strengths that I did not know I possessed. Fatherhood has the ability to make a man better than he ever thought possible.
8) What have been the most memorable experiences that you have had thus far as a parent?
I would like to point to some grand vacation or activity and say “That was simply amazing!”, but I can’t. Honestly it’s the day to day stuff to me that’s the most memorable. Just having conversations with my son, watching how excited he gets and listening to the crazy things that come out of his mouth. Those are the things that I think are really going to stick with me forever.
